Toddler Class 2 | More Pre-mathematics & Fine-motor skills

Toddler Class with Mama continued last Sunday.

Started off a bit late as Hambali took forever to finish his breakfast. Papa did'nt managed to bring the boys to playground as both Papa and Abang Hanafi rushed off for wedding that noon.

Hambali started off with flash card for the first time and just the word for shapes, all 5 flashed each at 5 seconds.

Then, continued with collage activity.
Objective :
Fine-motor skills through tearing and pasting on the designated shapes. Activity took about 15 minutes. Quite difficult for Hambali to do the tearing and I concluded he need to do this often.

Toddler Class 1 | Pre-mathematics & pre-science introduction

Toddler class? With his Mama of course.

Now, every Sunday he will spent time with Mama alone to do lots of fantastic activities specifically for his development.

Then, as Hambali's latest milestones has developed rapidly, I reckon he needs activities to extend the current knowledge acquired and so starting last Sunday onwards, he will do various suitable activities.

The objective of all these activities was for his fine-motor skill development as well as enhancement for what he already knew.

These was what he did....

Hambali's latest progress early this year

What's been happening to Hambali? Anyone miss him?

His latest looks...less chubby...

He's getting cheekier, throwing tantrum on and off and yet he is a self-learner. Self-motivated I must say. All I need to do on stimulating his learning endeavour is by constant videos watching, plastered lesson posters surrounded his bed and make books available within his reach, he is well-off on progressing on his own.

Adopting Montessori for toddler's motor skill (Part 2)

Activity #3 : Threading

Objective : Eye-hand coordination and improves concentration and dexterity

Adopting Montessori for toddler's motor skill (Part 1)

A bit of history on Montessori...

Montessori approach in teaching children was founded by Maria Montessori. Initially was meant for the handicapped children but after sometime, she realized it can be good too for any children. Montessori basically & partially stressed on motor-skill in learning & would utilised specially created tools for manipulation on specifically-purposed activity.

I, myself was fascinated by its concept but not really well-trained in this area. Somehow, I managed to get hands-on experienced before by working in Montessori preschool. I made a mental note on few activities they catered for their students and now I adopted some activities as part of my younger boy's activity.

These two are Baby Hambali's favourite activities!

Activity #1 : Pouring

Objective : Living Skills on pouring water (spatial skills)

Steps :
1. You just need two small plastic jugs about the size of your child can manage & few balls.
2. Show your child how this activity to be done one time only. Then your child can do the same.
3. After some time, you can replace the balls with smaller objects and finally replace it with water.

The ultimate objective for this skill is to pour water without any drops missed.

Activity #2 : Spooning

Objective : Living Skills on spooning (spatial skills)

What is a toddler?

Toddlers age is about from 1 year old to 3 years old.

They are transitioning from one type of lifestyle to another, toddlers can be thought of as the "adolescents" of early childhood. They are in the transitional state between babyhood and childhood.Toddlers are no longer dependent babies, and yet they do not have the personalities or the thought processes of a school age child. When Children Draw by Sandra Crosser, PhD

Notes : To those moms (even dads) who take seriously on what your child has been drawing, thumbs up! To those yet to do this, never too late to take your child's drawing seriously. Start expose them to the world full of colours by giving them non-toxic child-size crayon. Keep a record by writing on the date & what age for every single of your child's masterpieces even just a scribbling. Store it neatly & arrange it accordingly. Within time, you can always go back and observe how much your child has been progressing. Nevertheless, read on this summarised article to grasp what I have been emphasising about as well some understanding on milestones specifically from drawing itself.

Examining children's drawing may give us important insights into how drawing fits into the overall physical, emotional & cognitive development of the young child. From toddlerhood through primary school, children choose to draw. What role does drawing play in the young child' development?

Classical Music is not only soothing but there's more to it!

I was introduced to Classical Music at the tender age of 16 by my ex-classmates cum good friend. At first, it did'nt make sense to me why she was so into Classical Music until I heard it myself after surrendered to her much coaxing. Initially, I could not tolerate with music without singing as at that point of time, music was another gateway for me to improve my English language grasp so listening to Roxette, Color Me Badd, Mariah Carey, New Kids On The Block managed to assist me so-so.

How to teach ABC creatively & effectively

How do you teach the alphabet to your child?

Singing the famous 'ABC Song'? Point letter in ABC book? Play the ABC videos to your child?

You are in the right track and those are the same things that I did previously with my elder son, Hanafi. Below are the tools that I've used for him and currently using it to Baby Hambali too.

  1. Encourage speech. Talk to little babies, even before they can respond. When young children want something, let them ask instead of rushing to do their bidding immediately.
  1. Starts with storytelling. Looking at a book together can be a pleasurable experience even when a child is very young. Choose a time when your little one is in the right mood. 1. Buy books that small children can handle, such as cloth books and board books.

Love to Read | Reading to Baby & Toddler

Based on findings from self-interest research & compilation from various resources. Read on. Hope my chat on this topic helps a lot. More chat about reading will be up next round.

Guidelines on successful reading to baby
**A newborn can only focus 25-30cm, so look for cloth or cot books with both simple and complicated geometric patterns and faces (babies love faces) that will stimulate visual interest.
Book example:- Baby Faces by Dorling Kindersley
**Once a baby can grasp an object, look out for small, and square ‘block books’ great for tiny hands.
Book example:- Ladybird series, SPOT block books by Eric Hill
**At around 6 months, start to seek out books with brightly coloured, simple pictures and lots of rhythm. An obvious choice would be boldly illustrated collection of nursery rhymes.

Who said Book is Boring?

Ask yourself,"Do I read?". Then ask yourself again,"Do I REALLY read?" Two self-prodded questions will obtain two different answers though it SOUNDS almost the same. Be honest with yourself.

Now, ask yourself again,"Do I want my little ones to read? Do I REALLY want my little ones to REALLY read?"

If the answer is positive, read on my chat or else just go blog-hop to others. My chat onwards specifically to those who want their loved little ones to LOVE BOOKS & LOVE READING.

It happened to me that few people did asked what types of books is suitable for their child. I came across as well in forums & blogs, parents are unsure on how to read to their child & how to make their child love reading. You can pick some guidelines from my previous 'chat' which I had covered about reading to baby & toddler, then I shared some techniques to instill a love of reading & latest was reading to preschooler. I did chat about my books collections too in general. Perhaps a comprehensive show & tell of what types of books available for children can provide some insights to you.
